Uptown Sexy: Tana Gabrielle

What is it you do in Charlotte, and why?
I am the lead singer in a band called Pop Rocks. I also do bikini and fitness modeling. I do what I do because I always performed as a young girl. I was in beauty pageants and recitals and just grew to love music and entertaining. I’m also a mom; I have a teenager and I waited for him to get older to pursue my goals. I like to break the mold that you have to be twenty-something to sing or model. We’ll just say I’m thirty-something but still I have a lot of fun with it, and getting to travel is a bonus too!

What makes you sexy, or, what does sexy mean to you?
Sexy starts with spirit, even though I like to showcase my outside beauty while it lasts, thank the Lord! Still, I try to focus on my inside. If you have an ugly spirit it can make you really unattractive.

What makes Charlotte a sexy city?
Charlotte is the Queen City; it’s a regal city without being pretentious. The people here are extremely genuine, not haughty. I’ve lived in L.A., Colorado, but Charlotte is very different from other cities. It truly is a melting pot and the people just exude genuineness.

Favorite Charlotte hangout?
To dance, I like The Forum. If I feel like feeling sexy I’ll go to the Sunset Club. I’m also a huge fan of stand-up comedy and love going to the Comedy Zone.

What are you passionate about?
Well, music, first and foremost. Also fitness. I work hard to be healthy and fit. I’m also very concerned about animal welfare. It always surprises me people aren’t really even aware of the animal shelters around Charlotte. I’d like to see the shelters brought up to par.

Describe yourself in 5 words.
A tiny tower of power. No seriously. Loyal, strong, compassionate, open-minded, charismatic.

How is being one of Charlotte’s sexiest people going to change your life?
The whole premise surrounding it is that we represent the melting pot that Charlotte is. I hope people will see that diversity and it will be great for a great cause.
