What is it you do in Charlotte, and why? I’m the host of Fox News Rising. It came about after I ran for Congress in the 8th District, the first woman ever to do so. Though I didn’t win, I ended up in an interview with the news director and he had me on live TV the next day. I think the show is a great way to communicate with people. It’s lighthearted, lets people know what’s going on as far as political opinions and pop stories. We don’t do all the blood and guts and gore, so I enjoy the positive tone of the show.
What makes you sexy, or, what does sexy mean to you? I looked up the word ‘sexy’ in the dictionary before I came and the third definition was “highly interesting.” I think sexy is about having convictions and a level of self-awareness, not depending on others to know and understand who you are. Sexy is about having interests and being passionate about your ideas, not being afraid of what people think and believing in yourself and something.
What makes Charlotte a sexy city? Charlotte is full of interesting people; people doing great things and having great ideas. From universities to financial centers, Charlotteans are trying to make the world better, and that makes a sexy city. One unattractive thing about Charlotte is that we are ranked the #2 U.S. city for plastic surgery rates. This is an indicator that Charlotte is focused on looks as our standard of beauty, rather than emotional and mental awareness.
Favorite Charlotte hangout? Barnes & Noble!
What are you passionate about? I’m trying to change the image of sexy. The media standard of sexy is homogenized and dangerous. It leads to eating disorders and self-esteem issues because it creates this idea of beauty that doesn’t exist. I was a Women’s Studies major in college and started a non-profit called Build a Dream. The organization encourages young people to set goals for themselves that have nothing to do with physical appearance but focus on intellectual and personal development.
Describe yourself in 5 words. Passionate, intelligent, self-aware, fun, caring.
How is being one of Charlotte’s sexiest people going to change your life? Well my hope is: a) Help raise as much money as possible for Make-a-Wish because it’s a great organization. b) Help redefine sexy so that it’s no longer Maxim cover girls or scantily clad Britney Spears. I hope sexy will be about personality, convictions, inner beliefs, passions, and approaching life through these things without fear.
