At the end of my tenure with corporate America I was being paid $84,000 a year, had full benefits, a matching 401K, an office Uptown, and did almost nothing for 40 hours a week. Well to be 100% truthful, I would tell people I worked at least 40 hours a week, but really I worked from 9:30 in the morning to 4:30 in the afternoon with a generous one-hour break for lunch or a trip to the YMCA. Okay, ‘worked’ is the wrong word. I was there in my cube for a minimum of 24 hours a week, and amazingly enough, I hated my job and couldn’t wait to get out. I finally did, after 7 years, and you can, too. |

I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. It seems to me that most folks, including myself, never really abide by our resolutions. I read somewhere that a majority of folks sign up for new gym memberships at the beginning of the year, and 80% of them never actually go. But I’m bucking the trend this year; I have one resolution that I have got to stick to. We are renovating a house, and I have to make sure it’s finished by the spring of ’08. |

 When I came to Charlotte for barbecue, I never thought I’d discover the best brisket I’ve ever had. It’s better than anything I’ve had in Texas” exclaimed Rick Browne as we noshed on some amazing ‘cue at Mac’s on South Boulevard. Our fingers were covered with sauce, and the deep red spots on my yellow shirt made me envious of Browne’s trademark red and white checked picnic table-style shirt. As the host of the PBS series “Barbecue America”, there aren’t many people who know more about barbeque than Browne, who was in town to cover the Blues, Brews & BBQ event for his TV show, and also to serve as a judge in the professional team competition.
