Uptown Magazine has arrived on the iPad. Charlotte’s first fully interactive publication is here, and thankfully not one single tree was harmed in the process.

This creation was possible through our new partnership with Ink Deck. They converted a few of our old issues from the world of paper & pulp to bits & bytes. Along the way Ink Deck upped the Uptown ante by including audio files within Bryan Reed’s music reviews, previously unpublished photos to round out the stories throughout the magazine, plus video clips and other interactivity that will tickle your fingers and please your eyes.

Live Art and Jazz on the Square Friday the 19th

We are excited to host a live art and jazz trio on Trade & Tryon on November the 19th. In co-operation with Trafk Media we’ve brought the Ocie Davis group together with the good folks from Ink Bot Printing to put together a memorable afternoon affair.

Board Member of Center City Partners Threatens Small Business

David Furman, a board member on Charlotte’s Center City Partners (CCCP) threatened Trafk Media after they used temporary chalk on the sidewalks of Uptown.

What makes this all the more interesting is the CCCP’s self proclaimed mission, taken directly from their website:

Charlotte Center City Partners facilitates and promotes the economic and cultural development of the urban core.

Furman’s email and Trafk’s response is below:

Wow! Thanks for letting us know how you feel. And I appreciate the threats and foul language.

I’m sorry you feel the way you do. We went out of our way to mark public property with temporary chalk that washes away with water and minor foot traffic. The chalk would have been gone by this afternoon.

This is a common practice by multinational corporations in larger cities that simply adds to a diverse and interesting urban landscape. Something that Charlotte purportedly aspires to become.

Fashion Night Out at Butter

The glitterati started Fashion Night Out in 2009 in New York City as an attempt to jump-start the fashion and retail economy. In 2010, Charlotte’s version hit the NC Music Factory in a big way. With a fashion show in the front plaza of the Factory and the after-party at Butter, attendees were treated to a glamorous evening Sept. 9 under a warm summer night sky.

One Year Anniversary Party at Enso in the Epicentre

Party goers collectively wished Enso a happy first birthday, and we were there to celebrate the exotic affair. Naked sushi and nearly topless geishas beautified the inside of owner’s Erez and Pete’s place, while ninjas prowled the outdoors. VIPs enjoyed special treatment and everyone else was just glad to be a part of the festivities, wishing Enso many more happy birthdays to come.

Three hundred people celebrated the grand opening of the 51-story Vue condo tower Sept. 16. Ocie Davis and his band supplied the jazz, Enso and Lucie provided dinner and Amelie’s French Bakery capped off the night with dessert. As the Uptown skyline sparkled in the background, partygoers enjoyed the sunset on the Vue’s eighth-floor activities deck.
